161 - Getting Through Your Dark Days (Creative Philosophy Series)

I don’t know how to tell you this without just telling you: this episode contains personal stories of emotional / mental health struggles from my past that I’ve never publicly shared before. It wasn’t easy to record, but I believe I have an opportunity to open up and shed some light on some dark areas that I assume many in our community have struggled with. “Creative professional” can feel a bit like an oxymoron sometimes. Most creatives I know can be pro and act the part on the surface, but still remain the very squishy emotional artist underneath. Because of this, we often hide our struggles behind professionalism and positivity. In this episode, I want to give you some tools for grappling with obstacles and setbacks in totally new ways. Also, I’d like to pull behind the curtain a bit and share my own past struggles. It’s my hope that by sharing my story of emotional ups and downs that you will feel encouraged and less alone.

158 - The Lie that's Killing Your Creative Work (Philosophy Series Pt. 2)

believe there are a lot of hurtful myths about creativity perpetuated by creative people. These lies keep us down and keep us from thriving. In this episode I want to expose one of these lies and replace it with what I think is a higher truth about creative work. Are you ever frustrated with the rollercoaster of being a creative person? One minute you’re making the best thing you ever made, the next minute you’re so aggravated with your work you’re thinking of becoming a postal worker? Obviously, creativity has it’s ups and downs, but I believe that if you have the right mindset, and approach your craft in this certain way, your creative work can be a source of ever deepening joy.

Marketing can be so discouraging when you’re not focusing your efforts on what really works.
